Welcome to the MORE Nature website! MORE Nature is a collaborative initiative to bring more outdoor, nature-based play to the children of the Greater Omaha area. The project is being undertaken by a consortium of interested organizations: the Papio-NRD, The Nature Conservancy, Green Hearts Institute for Nature in Childhood, Hitchcock Nature Center, Lauritzen Gardens, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Omaha by Design, Audubon Society of Omaha, Sierra Club, Fontenelle Nature Association, Henry Doorly Zoo, Schramm Aquarium(NGPC), National Arbor Day Foundation, National Park Service, Omaha Children’s Museum and the Junior League of Omaha.
Representatives of these groups first met on Earth Day – April 22, 2008 – to discuss their shared concerns that today’s children are losing the powerful, play-based experiences in nature that were once such a cherished part of childhood. To move forward efficiently, the group formed a steering committee to set goals and objectives for the whole group. This steering committee consists of the Omaha Children’s Museum, Hitchcock Nature Center, Henry Doorly Zoo, Schramm Aquarium (NGPC), Green Hearts, and the Papio-Missouri River NRD.
